LUNATIC FOOLS PRISON AUDIENCE.
LONDON, July 23. The night before he eseaped from Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum, John Frederick Allen, appeared in the part of a elergyinan at a benefit performance for th-e asylum 's benevolent club. Visitors were so impressed by thc appeai he made for funds that they contributed £71, all of which Allen took with nim when he made his escape, in addition to over £100 from the funds of the asylum cant-ee.n, in which lie was einploved. A report that Allen i^ weaving cleric.al garb has been the cause of. enibarrassment to several clergymen, who, after telephone reports had been made that they bore a lilteness to tlie wanted man, suddenly found themselves surrounded by policemen. Allen is reported to have left Oxfordshire and reached London. He is believed to have dropped his clerical attire and to be wearmg one of several other disguises he is carrying with him. He is an expert at make-tip and can quickl'y change his appearanee. Among disguises he took from the properties of the asylum theatrical society were a SeoutinaSter 's uniform and a uniforni of a prison officer.
