BOWLING CLUB'S MEETING

The second annual meeting . of the Waikanae Beach Bowling Club was held at the beach teiinis pavilion recently. About 30 members - were present. The annual report was presented and members. expressed great satisfaction with the sticcess of the first year's play. ' The president, Mr. . &. Daniel, briefly traced the history \of the formative period and said, that when the idea of the club was first mooted the opinion was expressed by many, 'most of whom were enthusiastic members today, that the time was not yet rfpe to'form a bowling club at Waikanae Beach. The place was too small and support would not be forthcoming. However, right from the commencement everything had gone well, and largely because wherever work was to be done or an oifice to be filled the best possible men had volunteered. Thus the all important position of secretary had been filled by Mr. Max Turner, who had not only ably handled the affairs of the club, but had also' prepared the rules and had the club incorporated without any bother to the committee or members. The very able treasurer, Mr. Ted Antcliffe kept the books in such excellent order that at any committee meeting he could immediately give the precise financial position. The vice-president, Mr. Jack Williams, had brought to the club, composed principally of novices, no"t only therules of the game, but the ancient and very fine spirit which was the heart of it. The very great assistance of Mr. H. H. OlliVer, long a member of Otaki, had been invaluable. He had filled the office of sole selector, and beyond that had acted as coach and mentor to the great body of learners. Mr. Morris had given time and money freely. Mr. Donovan was simply on "a win for the club. As you are all aware I too, am a novice, and had no previous connection with the game, and I am certain that my enthusiasm and your enthusiasm for it springs from the very fine spirit which permeates it." The social committee was thanked for its very fine effort; the ladies for assistance Tyith afternoon teas, etc., and Mr, W. Webb for veyy fine work in forming the green. The following officres were elected: — Patron: Mr. W.M.Angus; president: Mr. J. R. Williams; vicepresident: Mr. T .B. Morris; hon. secretary: Mr. C. M. Turner; hon. treasurer: Mr. E. A.., Antcliffe;. exe? cutive : Messrs". " J.' Osborne, F/ Tait,' F. Williams, A. G. Warr, H. Birtlesen, E. Render and M. A. Daniel (past president) ; delegate to centre: Mr. J. R.
