SILVESTRE AND VERNON JUMP THE COUNTRY
At Awapuni yesterday morning Silvestre, wliicli will be ridden by Mr. G. G. Beatson in tlie Braeelet at the Bangitikei Hunt Club's meeting at Marton oi Saturday, jumped'the country with Vernon, from the McDonald stable. Silvestre was ridden by M. Both jumped really well. . . - DEATH OF BOYAL MELTON Boyal Melton injured a leg during •the 'running of the Manawaru Hunt Club Steeplechase -last Saturday and it was with much trouble that he was got back to his stable. On Sunday. morning it was found that Boyal Melton had died. By Bulandshar from Poily Peaehum, Boyal Melton, who raced in the colours of Mr. S. Andrews, had sliovvn considerable ability as a jumper. MYNET DESTEOYED Mr. A. Griffith has lost his line jumper, Mynet, which had to be de•stroyed yesterday. Mynet injured a leg at the Manawatu meeting and the injury failed to respond to treatment. OUT FOR A SPELL Aristoa was well backed for the Kia Ora Handicap at Trentham on Saturday and after being prominent early she finished lifth. Her trainer, A. B. Beale, has decided that Aristea has hau enough racing for the time being and the mare has been turned out for a spell. Specialist has been brought in to rejoin the active brigade. SATURDAY 'S RACE MEETINGS There will be three race meetings on Saturday. The Bangitikei Hunt ClubT steeplechase meeting will be heid ai Marton. The Avondale winter meeting will be concluded on the club's own course, and at Biccarton will be heid the Christchurch Hunt Club's steeplechase meeting which is considered a "dress rehearsal" for the C'.J.C. Grand National meeting which will be opened at Biccarton a week later. RISING TWO-YEAR-OLDS AT AWAPUNI G. W. New has nine rising tvvo-year-olds in his care at Awapuni. Two of them will race in the colours of Mr. G. M. Currie. They are bay lillies which will be kuown as Myrna aud Precocity. Myrna is by Bingmaster froie Screen, and Precocity Is by Spiral from Preniature. Another filly belongs to Mr. H. C. Collinson. Her naiue is Leniency and she is by Probation from Balashiei. Mr. I. Donald owns a gelding by Beau Vite from Kotou. Pitoitoi is a bay iilly by Bobin Goodfellow from Oranoa. She is owned by Dr. C. S. Williams. A gelding named Beauroemont is by Beau Bepaire from Bon Boe. He is owned by Mrs. H. Lyda. Mr. New owns three of the "babies". They /will race as Boyhood, Besciiid and Bejlecet. Sari won two races at Tren thaui and her performances were im pressive. She will be a four-year-old wlien she lines up for the Winter Cup. TO RICCARTON ON TUESDAY W. E. Piue will lcave for Biccarton 011 Tuesday. He is taking Playtos and Afton Water. Playtos will be ridden . y W. J. Broughtou. Afton Water will race in the Trial on the sbcond day. Harold Griffith was to have gone south vvith Flyiug Ace ou Monday night, but he is now going on Tuesday. MARTON ENGAGEMENTS K. Cliote has becu engaged to ride Playboy, Omaio aud Swing Bridge at Marton 011 Saturday. THE TRAINERS ' PREMIERSHIP The victory of Mcrcian Lad in the Crofton Handicap at Trentham on Saturday gave the Stratford trainer, J. G. Farrell, 2S wins for the season. Next to him in the t-raiuers ' premicrship is W. E. Hazlett. BRUCE AND THE BIG CUFS There is every probability that Bruce will inake the trip to Australia to con test both the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups this spring (states a southern report). Avenues are being explored with a view to arranging transport for the Roval Chief horse, and should these be successful the trip will be undertaken at an early date with a view to giving the horse every chance to become acclimatised. PAGE'S RAID'S GOOD EFPORT If the Grand National winner wai seen at Washdyke on Saturday it was probably Page's Raid (states the Star Sun). Page's Raid was given a Strong race over a mile and a-quarter in the Pareora Hunters' Plate and after making all the running with Aldis Lamp heid on solidly to beat Solver, who had had the benefit of the trail throughout.
