4 AUCKLAND, Jnly 23. • " I am af raid these are only two more cases of death "by misad venture from the effect of' the temporary shortage of gas in Auckland, ". said the Coroner, Alr. A- Addison, when coiii cluding inquests into the deatks of 'two people who were found dead in gasfilled- rooms in Ponsonby and Herne Bay on June 21 and June 20. They were Richard Francis Hammon, labourer, aged 51, of St. Mary's Road, Ponsonby, and Mrs. Eva Garnett, domestic, aged 59, of Herne' Bay. There was. nothing- in eithef case to indicate that deceased had meant to take their own lives and all the circumstances pointed to accidental death, said Mr. Addison. It was very easy. to leave a gas tap on when the pressure went off and then forget about it. Witnesses gave evidence that they had broken into the rooms occupied by the deceased. In both cases the gas taps of appliances in the rooms were on and the rooms smelt strongly of gas. Both deceased were lying dead on their beds.
