Toa Much Electricity Used By Radiators - It was obvious that eleetric. radiators, were being used tq exqess in chis distriet, stated the mahaging secretary, Mr. R. A. Fredtriksgfi, i|i hfs report to the monthly meeting of the Horowhenua Eleetric Power Board yesterday. He appeaied to all radiator users to refrain from using "chem if they had any alternative" method of heating. "It will be well intq September before the second unit at Karapiro is operatfng and consequently the quota for this distriet |s hqt likely .10 be inereased until the worst of the winter is over," said Mr, Frederikson. The rationing .position for ' the past four weeks showed that :the Horowhenua distriet had used 'over 16,000 units more than its alloeation. "Under average weather conditions we can get along on ihe present restrictions, but in - the !event bf colder weather the consumption is likely to exceed the quota. It can be seen that ihere is little margin for a further increase in electricity for waterheating," he explained to the board. The chairman, Mr. T. G. Vincent, mentioned that consumers should know that the plant at Mangahao ; was not working fully because the reservbir was full of boulders. "It is not generally known that an act of nature has held up supplies of electricity to this distriet," he addedThe engineer, Mr. J. F. Bryce, said that when Mangahao was built the load designed for it was very light and provided for a 50 per cent. peak load. "That is to say the station Was to run on full load for only half the day. The storage provided at Mangahao will not give enough water to run the statio.n at full load all the time. However," he said, "Mangahao in the last. few years h'as broken all output records." It would be very difficult to transport the necessary machinery to the dams to ciean out all the silt, said Mr. Bryce. The building committee, cqmprising the chairman and Messrs. R. R. Lind, C. S. Keedwell and Major-General R. Young, together with- the managing-secretary and engineer, brought before the meeting a schedule of proposed works. The schedule provided for the following: (1) Additions to the board's depot at Levin; (2) the provision of a workshop and storage room at Otaki; and (3) the building of a house in each of Paraparaumu, Levin, Shannon and Foxton to accommodate members of its staff in the plan of decentralisation and to meet the expansion of the board's work. . The meeting adopted the eommittee's report. The board adopted without comment a decision to continue its support of the Manawatu Regional Planning Councii. An application by Mr, D. F. Watson, of Paraparaumu, for the installation of a power suppiy to his house in Manley, Street was received. Mr. Watson stated that he had bqen a resident since 1913, and considered that it wqa time he had a suppiy of electricity. The board recommended that the engineer bring down a report on the cost of erecting the 30 chains of line required.
