PRETTY SHANNON WEDDING
SCEATS — WOOD The sun was shining in the early afternoon of Saturday, July 5, when invited guests and friends gathered in and outside St. Joseph's Roman. Catholic Church, Shannon, to honour Lilian Evelyn, a twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Wood, Venn Street. Shannon, who was being married to Graham Francis, youngest son of Mrs. Sceats of Richardson Avenue, Gisborne, and the late Mr.* G. Sceats. Rev. Father Foley officiated and Mrs. L. Dalzell, Palmerston North, played appropriate music. Escorted by her father, the bride was beautifully gowned in off white satin, made into a shaped bodice which featured a net yoke trimmed with satin embossed leaves. The sleeves were long, pointed over the wrists and finished with satin buttons. The gathered skirt had a bustle effect and fell into a pointed train, which was embroidered with a net heart and satin leaves. Her long embroidered net veil was pleated above the orange blossoms, which formpd the head-dress. The bridegroom's gift of a double string of pearls was worn a'nd she carried a bouquet of cream chrysanthemums, carnationsj freezias and maidenhair fern. In attendance were two of her sisters, Mrs. R. Campbell (matronof -honour) and Miss Dulcie Wood (bridesmaid) , and a niece, Carol Payne, as flower girl. The two former wore apple green embossed satin frocks made with long buttoned down the back bodices, heart-shaped necklines, thre'equarter length rucked sleeves and long full skirts. Their Juliet caps were of green net, adorhed with beautiful pink cyclamen, and their bouquets featured these flowers with the addition of pink sweet peas, carnations and maidenhair fern. They wore single strings of pearls given to them by the bridegroom. The flower girl was prettily dressed in a ground length frock of pink embossed satin, and she also wore a Juliet cap adorned with cyclamen and carried a dainty long handled basket of pink flowers. The bridegroom's gift to her was a gold bangle. The duties of bestman were carried out by Mr. Paul Sceats (Gisborne) , brother of the 'groom, and those of groomsman by the bride's brother, Mr. Kenneth Woodj (Ohakune) . As the bridal party was leaving the church, the bride was presented with two lucky horseshoes by her nieces, Phyllis a'nd Shirley Lincoln, of Levin, and cameras recorded the scene. - At the Parish Hall sixty guests were received by Mrs. Wood, who wore a nayy dress and coat and hat trimmed with white and a spray oi; white ^ drchids. Mrs. Sceats, the 'groom's . mother, who assisted, wore- ; a black ensemble With a shoulder spray of freezias. The toasts were honoured in' the usual manner, Mr. R. E. Vinsen acting as toastmaster. The square two-tiered wedding cake, made by the 'groom's mother, was beautifully iced and surmounted by a vase in the form of a silver lily filled with snowdrops. Entertainment was provided by Colin Payne and Graham Vinsen, who both sang. Later the bride and 'groom left 'for their wedding trip to New Plymouth and. Wanganui, the bride wearing a mustard brown embroidered frock, with green coat and hat ornamented with a mustard feather and black accessories. The happy couple were the recipients of beautiful gifts, as well as cheques, which will be taken to their home in Gisborne. Relatives of the bride who jouineyed to Shannon for the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. N. Lincoln and family (Levin) , Mr. and Mrs. Gordon, Wood (New Plymouth) , Mrs. J. Mason ' (Westport) , Mrs. W. Berquist (Palmerston North) , and Mr. and Mrs. Colin Dalzell (Christchurch). The bridegroom's relatives present besides his mother were Mr. and Mrs. F. Aishert and daughter (Palmerston North) and Mr. and Mrs, Paul Scpnts (Gisborne) .
