We shall *con tinue to use beds in Ward 11 foi ' maternity patients. There liave been considerable difficnlties in niaintaining tlie N-Hay services throughout the month, due to frequent breakdowns in tlie main X-Rav plant. The massage department lias been working sliort of stalf and it has been necessary to curtail work of this department. A further appointment to this department is reconimended when stalf is available, and we are at present advertising a position. The statistics for tlie Palmerston North Hospital Board 's institutions wero as follow for the month of June: — Admitted 895, discharged 372, died 24, remaining end of month 310, daily average of occupied beds 311.57. Infectious diseases: Scarlet fever, admitted 8, reinaining end of month 3; diphtheria 2, hydatid cyst 2, 1; erysipelas 1, 1; typhoid 1, 1. Maternity Homes. Patients remainiiig in homes: Palmerston North, mothers 13, babes 12; Foxton 5, (5; Otaki 7, 8; Feilding 7, 7. Admitted : Palmerston North 41, Foxton 11, Otaki 19, Feilding 19. Births: Palmerston North 3(5, Foxton S, Otaki 15, Feilding 17. Daily average of occupied beds: Palmerston Nortli 20.4, Foxton 3.93; Otaki 7.13, Feilding 7.1. Tneluded in the Palmerston North Maternity Home figures are the cases

transferred from the Maternity Home to the McHardy Ward and Ward 11 after confinement. Twelve such trans fers oceurred during the month, witli an average occupied bed figure of 4.27 maternity patients in the main hospital
