LOCAL AND GENERAL
Personal Mrs. Rawcliffe, who has been in the Palmerston North Hospital for some time, is reported to be making good progress and should be home within a fewdays' time. Mr. Frank Boggs, who has been in hospital in Wellington for some time, retumed to his home on Saturday night, much benefited by the treatment received. The death occurred at Paekakariki recently, of a well-known and highly-esteemed Foxton resident, in the person of Miss Mabel' Hughes, aged 67 years. Messrs. Thomas, George, Hughie (Foxton) and Harry Hughes (Pirinoa) are brothers of deceased and Mesdames R. . Cochran (Foxton), R. Sayer (Pirinoa) , E. Buick (Carterton, late of Otaki), R. Kennedy (Dargaville) , D. Breeze (Paekakariki) and Misses' Mary and Pearl Hughes (Wellington) are sisters of deceased. Vandalism at Weekend Some person or persons did the rounds of the town at the weekend and broke the window in the door at Dowsett's and the watertap at the Civic Beauty salon. Whether the former was an attempt at burglary is not known, but if so it was an amateurish one. Paraparaumu Under Water The aerodrome at Ohakea came in for emergency use on Monday morning when Dakota passenger aircraft were compelled to use it owing to the landing ground at Paraparaumu being under water. National Airways officials reported that the sodden condition of Paraparaumu, following heavy weekend rains, was such that aircraft would probably damage their landing flaps if they attempted to use the field.
