The ..weather - gave Field Marshal "Montgomery a poor welcome to Invcr cargill on Saturday but the people xnade up for the'piisbehaviour of the el'cments bv increasingy if that were possible, tlie warmth of. their welcome. There was no niistaking the sineerity aud hearty pordiality of the welcome with which Viscount Montgomery was greeted when he arrived at the Town Hall after what he admitted had been a very cold trip by car -from Dunedin, and also when he. entered a erowded theatre for the ■ civie reception. He again received a great ovation lasting a minute or two when he rose to reply to. the speeches of welcome.
