STANDING BY FIVE DAY WORKING WEEK
Roceived Sunday, 7 p.m. LONDON, July 19. Mr. Sbinwell told a meeting of 50,000 oiincrs and families at Morpeth, Nortbumbcrland, that he absolutely declined to interfere with the five day week or ask the miners to work longer hours which would not produce more coal but only cause more fatigue and absenteeism. All he asked was that the miners should work a full five shif'ts. If this were done thrpughout the coallields there would l)e no need for longer hours or .week. O11 the other liand, if the mine worlcers came to him in a bodv seeking longer hours the matter would deserve considerdtion. Until thev did he would stand by the five day week.
