VERY SATISFACTORY YEAR

LEyj-N PLUWET SOCIETY' S ACTIVITIES The work in -Levin was steadily •going ahead and the .branch was now fr.e.e from all financial anxiety, .said the pr.esident of the' Levin ! -branch ,of the Plun.ket Society, Mrs. ; L. J. Hunter, in her r.eport to lasi ;even±og's annual mee.ti.ng pf memJb.ers. This was due to the splepdid response of the residents of Levin and -distric-t, who had suppp.rted tlie. society ;by their donations. "The society's sub-branches, Shannon and Manakau, have been making splendid progress," ' said Mrs. .Hunter . "Manakau has i already called for tenders for thb building pf i-heir Plunket Rbbms." ' •In token- of their appreciation ofi all "that the women, of Levin had done during the war years, members of the Junior Chamber of •Commerce had undertaken to build the society a Plunket and Community Centre, -if the society could supply the necessary 'materials. , Unfortufiately, however, a piece of land had not been pbtainable and the scheme was now awaiting a suitable site. Nurse's Work Increases The past y.ear had been a very satisfactory one, said Nurse Hight in her report. There had been 30 ,more new babi.es than last year. It had been disappointing that so many mothers w.ere anxious to we.an th,eir babies and so dehy thpm the birthrig.ht of naiure's food and prptection that this method gave a b.aby froni inf ection. The test scales had been in good •demand. Mothers had testified to the great help received from their use, and had gained .confidence in ■ hemse:lyes .a? nursing mothers. The pre-jschool cliildren's work had progressed satisfactorily in Levin, Nurse Hight said, but not in the sub-Branches. This had been due mostly ,to the lack pf suitabfe scales, but this would be remedied as soop as ppssible. ' Mothers had been .eiicouraged to have their children iminunised against diptheria and many had dorie so. Two bariies were ^p.t to Karitane HosPital. Bo.th ha.d r-e.tufried arid were prpgressriig well. The Plunket Mothers' Club had been formed in .^.pril and had been most successful. About 60 children riad ,enj1oy,ed -a .day in Mrs. . Jr Pr Bertram's grounds at Christmas tiwe. '•! wish to express my gratitude to ith,e committee for its loyal support .during the year," said Nurse Hight. It makes a tremendous difference when there is harmony between the nurse and the 'corrimittee." The report on work done for tlfe
