WOMEN'S DIVISION
SHANNON BRANCH MEETS Mrs. L. H. Best presided at the July meeting of the Shannon Branch of Federated Farmers, held on Monday afternoon. An appeal from the local branch of the Red Cross Society for the "Save the Children Campaign" was discussed. It was decided that Mesdames Guerin and K. Thomson should represent the branch at the Wellington central provi'ncial meeting at Palmerston North this week. A donation of £3 was made for a speeified purpose to Wellington central. A reminder was given of the plant stall for next and successive meeting days. Members having flower plants, bulbs, etc., for sale will place them on the stall, the division retaining 2d in each shilling of the sale money. Mesdames E. Barber, C. Guerin and Misses G. Smith and D. Ward were delegated to provide refreshments at the booth at the saleyards on Monday, I July 14. I The secretary was directed to | write letters of sympathy to Mrs. J. i Aim and family and Mrs. J. Curran and family in their recent bereavements. The monthly competitions resulted: — Bowl of leaves: Mrs. L. H. Best 1, Mesdames K. Mitchell and E. Barber 2 (equal), Mrs. C. Guerin 3. Three pikelets: Mrs. L. H. Best 1, Miss Grace Smith 2, Mesdames Mills and Barber 3 (equal). Handworked serviette: Mrs. Mills 1, Mrs. Guerin 2, Mrs. Best 3. The competitions for August will be for a shoulder spray (not wired) , three ! plain sco'nes and the prettiest 1 apron. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Misses G. Smith and D. Ward. i
