REORGANISATION Of LOCAL GOVERNMENT
WELLIKQ-TOK, July 10. Preliminary investigations into the whole local government structure of . the Dominion have alreadv been commenced and will be prosecuted aetively in future, says a statement issued tod'ay by the Local Government Commission. Despite the short period of the commission's existence, the issnes in- '■ vol'Ved are rapidly becoming ela'rilied and it could be said that eonsiderable progress has been made in achievfttg the objects of the commission. The commission will hold its lirst public hearing concerning the question" of lire protection in Auckland on July 23 and oh July 26 will liear evld'ence • on the qnesti'On of the eonstitution of the Mt. Eoski'll road district as a bofough. The commission will sit at Hamilton on July 28 to consider the question of the eonstitution of a local 1 a'ufh'Offty to eontrol the domain on the shore of Lalce Karapiro. At Dunedin on September 24 the commission Will conduct an inquiry into a pfoposal to create a catchment board for the ' Clutha ba'sin and on October 22 if will , sit at Kaikohe to hear evidence on a proposal' t'o amaiganiate the six nortlii efn hospital boards of Mangonui, Whangaroa, Hokianga, Bay of Islands, ; Kaipafa and Whangarei.
