Mrs. McSweeney, who has been on a visic. to Otaki, returned to her home at Dannevirke today. Mr. and Mrs. Boyne, of Waverley, who have been among the visitors to Otaki| left today for Wellington. Mr. E..T. Bartosh leaves next week for Tauranga 'on business. While in the north he will visit Auckland and oiher places. Mr. L. G. Gimblett had the misfortune- on Wednesday to severely gash his hand on a tin. Stitches had to be inserted. Mrs. F'. H. Smith, daughter of Mrs. W. Burns Smith, and her son, will leave on Saturday by the Ruahine for England. They carry with them the best wishes of their many friends. Whitebait Scaree Whitebait up to the present has not been plentiful, but a few catches have been made in the Otaki and other rivers. Frostfish Numerous Frostfish have been fairly numerous at Otaki Beach recently. Several have been of considerable length, ranging from 4ft. 6in. to weil over six feet. Nails on Road As the result. of a visit of the magnetic trucfc, which collects nails and other metal objects, a 'large quaniity of these articles has been removed from highways in Otaki. The exact weight is not yet known. River Boards' Tonr A tour of the Horowhenua district on Wednesday concluded the New Zealand Land Drainage and River Boards' conference at Palmerston North. Delegates visited the jute mills at Foxton and inspected the drag-line in ac.tion at Otaki River. Faise Fire Alarm The question was asked at a meeting of the Otaki Borough Council this week as to who was responsible for the false fire alarm in Otaki on Monday morning. It was stated that enquiries were still i being- made in an effort to find- ihe person responsible, and it wasthought that the alarm had been sounded by somebody "weil under the weather."
