BOROUGH ADMINISTRATION
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING OF COUNCIL The f ortnightly meeting of the Shannon Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening and presided over by the Mayor (Mr. R. E. Downes). Also present were Crs. R R. Lind, J. A. Roach, H. Aitchison, E. Perry, C. G. Wishart and H. L. Norris. ^ , The Mayor reported that had interviewed Messrs. Blenkhorn and Todd and arranged for a clause to be inserted in the agreement between the council and Mr. H. Hook in connection with the purchase of the section in Plimmer Terrace, whereby the council would have the right to pay off the principal at any time. A Vance Street resident wrote asking that attention be given to a drain in front of his residence. The matter was referred to the works committee with power to act. A communication was reeeived from the Levin Town Clerk advising that as the result of a ballot Mr. V. J. Cottle had been elected to fill the vacancy on the Palmerston North Hospital Board. The minutes of a meeting of the Manawatu Regional Planning Council, held recently, were read bv the town clerk and, 011 the motion of Cr. Higgie, it v/as resolved that the council continue as a member of the Regional Planning | Council for a trial period of twelve months, with the right to withdraw at any time. It was also resolved that the expenses of the council for the first twelve months should not exceed £100. When the motion was put to the meeting it was carried, Cr. Aitchison dissenting. Due to the death of Cr. Curran, a vacancy has occurred in the personnel of the council. The matter reeeived considerable diseussion and it v/as ultimately resolved, on the motion of Cr. Lind, that, owing to the nearness of the municipal elections, the vacancy on the council should not be filled.
Cr. Lmd reported thar he had reeeived word that the dividing fence between the council's property in Stout S reet and the property of Mrs. Tremewan had been completed, and he would make an inspection of the work. Cr. Lind also reported that he had carried out an inspection of the work done at the domain. The contractors had made an excellent job, stated Cr. Lind, and he had signed the accou'nt for payment. The passing of accounts amounting to £262 2s 5d terminated the business of the meeting.
