SEAMEN WHO STOLE STORES FROM SHIPS
AUCKLAND, July 8. Ten greasers and stevvards from the liner Rangitiki appeared before Mr. L G. H. Sinclair, S.M., jointly charged with stealing ship's stores valued ai £47 8s. The storeroom on the ship was broken into and foodstuffs valued ai over £47 were stolen, said Detective V. Lennon. A search was liiade of the ship and aceused were all found iii possession of the stolen food. They all admitted taking part in breakin; into the storeroom and gave as a reason that they wanted to help out the ration of their relatives in England. Aceused was a seamap. on -the Waiwera and had takeii two blankets from the .ship to sell ashore. "I have been buying stores in Auckland to take home to my people u England and I ran short of money,' aceused told the Magistrate. Aceused was senteneed to 14 days imprisonment.
