COMMISSION ON DAIRY MARKETING
WELLINGTON, Jnly 8. The establishment of a Dairy Marketing Comriiission in accordance with the agreement made between the Government and representatives of the dairy industry, is provided for in the Dairy Marketing Commission Bill introduced and read a first time in the Honse of Representatives today. A brief explanation of the Bill was given by the Minister of Marketing, Mr. Cullen, who said it had the approval of the Dairy Board and Dairj' Industry Council. The Bill, which consists pf 3U clauses, gives effect tO' the agreement,' details of which were announced when it was made in April. The mcasure is described in the short title as "an Act to establish a New Zealand Dairy Marketing Commission to make provision for. the acquisition and marketing by it of butter and cheese which is intended to be exported from New Zealand, to vest in the • Commissiun j power to fix prices to be paid for the j butter and cheese so acquired by it, and to make provision for the regulation i of the marketing of butter and cheese in New Zealand ' Mr. Cullen said there would be a Commission of seven members, three to be appointed from a panel of six names nominated by the industry and three by the Government, with an independent eliairman. It would fix the guaranteed price t-rom season to seaspn and controj the marketing of butfer and cheese. The leader of the Opposition, Mr. Holland: This takes control right awav from the Government. The Minister nodded assent. ATr. F. W. Doidge: Who is to be the new chairman? Mr. Holland: There appears to be no answer.
