Received Monday, 7 p.m. HOBART, July 7. The eity gave Field Marshal Montgomery a welcome sucli as no other visitor has ever received. Crowds have attended him everywhere since his arrival in the city where he lived as a boy. The enthusiasm has been such that on several occasions the victor of E1 Alamein has had to call for proteetion from the worshipping crowds. The Jiappiest of the welcomers .were six old i'olk who waited patiently for a few words with .the man they had known as a boy at Bishopseourt, when hi's father, Rt. Rev. H. H. Montgomery, was Bishop of Tasmania. They were his former nurse, forfner cook, parlourmaid, governess and professional nurse at Bishopseourt, and the woman who taught Field Marshal Montgomery to ride a pony around Hobart. Field Marshal Montgomery 's speech consisted mainly of early reminiscences of Hobart which were greeted with loud applause.
