ALARMING GROWTH OF CIVIL SERVANTS

SYDXEY, July 7. "The alarming increase in Commonwealth Government employment ' de mands that the Prime Minister sliould order an immediate and searching investigation into the whole position," said the Federal Country Party leader, Mr. Fadden, today. "Reports that Australian men and women in Government employment reached the record total of 556,700 in March or one in forty of the working population of 22,344,700, reveals an alarming situation. This is 6600 more than in February or an increase at the rate of more than 200 employees daily. "Equally amazing is the revelation that Commonwealth Government employees alone inereased by 4100 in a month to 156,500 in March, wliich r'epresents a daily increase of 132."
