Servicemen Being Discharged Ma'ny former overseas service personnel in Levin have now received advice of their official discharge from the services. Discharges are being issued as quickly as the much-depleted Base Records staff can deal with the 200,000 flies involved. Baby Powders Appear Again "This powder has been sterilised. Warning — do not use on cuts or abrasions." This label is now affixed to the ti'ns of baby powder which are re-appearing in. Levin shops. Last year all baby powders were withdrawn from sale following several deaths airiong infants, the cause oi,' which was traced to tetanus germs in the basic ingredient of the powder. Boxing Inquiry The New Zealand Boxing Council is expected;to reopen next week its rnqpiry coAcerning the two Bos Murphy-Willie Jones contests, which took piace in January and Fcbruary !res'pectively. 'The inquiry originaily opendd orn March 21 arid has been adjourned' several times since then. In the 'meantime, considerable litigation has taken place. Both Bos Murphy and Willie Jones have been requested to appear. •' Injured in Collisions A motor-cyclist, Mr. James . Brodke, • aged>20 -years, was seriously injured and is in the Gisborne hospital in an unconscious state as a result of a collision on Sunday night with a pedestrian, Mr. H. Fairlie, aged 54 years, a drover. Mr. Fairlie was also admitted to hospital suffering from a fractured leg. A double. fracture of ihe right arm and a sca'lp wound were received b'y Mr. H. S. Davis, a pedestrian, who was involved in a collision with a car driven by Mr. kj A. J. Humphrey, in Gisborne on Saturday night. Tramper Injured Misfortune attended an outing by members of the Heretaunga Tramping Club on Sunday when a young woman member fell down •&,, hillside on ihe Kaweka Ranges and sustained injuries to her head and body. She was Miss Pauline Tyres, of Hastings. The St. John ambulance left for Waiwhare hut where Miss Tyres had been removed but on the decision of a doctor. who : was ,with the - tramping party, not to disturb the patient until yesterday, 1 he ambulance returned to Hastings and , left again yesterday morning. Miss Tyres' condition is reported as satisfactory." Bull Controls Road Something new in road blockage recently startled motorists on a section of the old Porirua Road yesterday morning. A bull which had eseaped from a paddock took complete control of the road. The few motorists soon realised that the bull did not wish to be disturbed. One motorist came round a corner to find a car rapidly approaching him in reverse. The owner received an urgent telephone call but he only remarked that the bull probably wanted to see if the cars had their new stickers on. The hull could not be persuaded to change his mind till the ranger arrived to drive him back to his paddock. Wellington - Lyttelton Ferry The Union "Steam Ship Company announces -that the Wahine which should have been ready to relieve in the Wellington-Lyttelton service on July 12 will not now be ready to iake up her running until Tuesday, July 15, and passengers booked for the Wahine on Saturday, July 12, and Rangatira on Monday, July 14, should call at the office through which they booked and have their reservations altered for the Rangatira and Hinemoa respectively. The Rangatira which arrives in Wellington on Tuesday, July 15, will wait over and,- sail on Wednesday, July 16, in place of the Hinemoa which will undergo her annual , survey.
