PcrsonRl Mr. F. Callesen has returned home after spending a few days with Mr. M. Cameron at Waitarere. J-Force Leave Draft Local men who are arriving home with the- J-Force leave draft are Pte. J. B. Robinson, son of Mrs. Robi'nson, Venn Street, and Pte. R. T. Spring, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Spring, Nathan Terrace. Card Winners There was the usual good attendance of players at the weekly card evening conducted by the* loc'al branch of the Labour Party in Laurvig's Hall on Friday. Prizewinners were Mrs. J. Kenny and Mr. R. Andrew. Anamometer Repaired Mr. Baker, of the head office of the Public Works' Department, Was in Shannon on Wednesday checking the anamometer at the rail.y/ay station. Mr. Baker is making a 1300-mile tour all over New Zealand, carrying out an inspection of the i'nstruments in connection with , the collecting of data for the meteorological branch. R.S.A. Parcel Appeal A donation of £1 by Miss Crowther has brought the Shannon R.S.A. parcels for Britain appeal to a total of £65 0s 7d. The cost of the 44 parcels ''which were reeently sent has yet to be deducted from this total. The R.S.A. is urgently in need of funds to enable it to provide food parcels for the families of needy ex-servicemen in Fife, Scotland. Any donations will be greatly appreciated by the secretary, Mr. E. J. Gunning.
