HERD TESTING

MEETING OF LEVIN GROUP the Levin Group of the New Zealand Herd Testing Association met this week. Messrs. R. Sutcliffe and H. E. Webb were present as conveners. The manager of the association, Mr. T. G. W. Page, inroduced the Dairy Board consulting officer, Mr. D. Johnston. The following committee was elected: Messrs. R. S. Robertson, D.

H. Brown, R. norne, w. a. J-.ong, i. R. E. Burnell, W. Brody and Mrs. Macfarlane. Messrs. R. Sutcliffe and H. E. Webb were nominated as delegates to the annual meeting of the association, to be held in Pal-. merston North. Many comments were made regarding the proportion of fees paid by stabilisation, and it was moved that a greater proportion be applied for. The manager, Mr. Page, gave a short report on the affairs of the association. He outlined the factors which had compelled the management committee to increase the charges for testing, comparing the prices ruling today with those of a few years ago. Mr. Page mentioned some of the difficulties met with when buying new equipment for expansion. He said that every endeavour would be, made to cope with the many requests for membership. The use of testing returns, as they affected herd management and breeding, were demonstfated in an illustrated address given by Mr. Johnstone.
