"WHAT S A GOOD PLAY?"
OTAKI piAYERS' DISCUSSION Meetings of the newly-formed Otaki Players have been well attended and most enjoyable. The first reading was an informal one of J. B. Priestley's p.musing satire, "The Roundabout,^ the readers being Mesdames John Beck, Cross, Malcolm, Holmes, Turner, Misses Cockrell, Holst, Lea and P. Fogden, and Messrs. Kirkwood and Pacey. The . first discussion evening proved iiighly popular. The subject was "What is a Good Play," ' and the discuSsion was led by Mr. L Hely, tutor-organiser for adul. education " in the Victoria University district, who came specially for the o'ccasion from Palmerston North* The play chosen to illustrate the theme was Sir James Barrie's "The Twelye-pound Look." Animated discussion on the play was of great interest, and frequently enlivened ' by humour. Those reading were Mesdames Holmes and Lea and Mr. Pacey. The directions, which are such a delightful feature of Barrie's plays, ,vere read by Miss Keddell. • At the next meeting a rehearsed reading of St. Johri Ervine's moving play, "The Ship," is to be read, when some new readers will be heard. Membership of the Otaki Players is increasing, and ihere is no doubt that the society is likely i play no small rairt in the cultural life of Otaki;
