OTAKI' S JTJNE MEETING There was a • good attendance v/hon ihe Otaki Vi/omen's Ins'cituie uiet m tne Anglican Hall for its montniy gathenng. Mrs. Walter Taylor (pxesideiiuj occupied ihe chnir. Tne " meetmg opened wRh tlie singing of the msbitute song and New . Zealand, Nationax /Aithem, followed by tne repeadng of the aspxranons. Apologies werc received frcm- Meseiames Raiph, Turnouil, Howev and Synnott. New memoers were welcomea, Mrs. Brooker from Hunterville W.i. and also Mrs. Spiers and Miss Gaby. An expression of sympathy. was passed 'with Mr. and Mrs. Synnott m meir lilness, and also Mrs. Turnouil, who is in hospital, and good wishes were expressed for tnerr speedy recovery. Tne Horowhenua A. a'nd P. Associaqion sent the scheaule for the snow in January next, with reference to special classes for W.I.'s and W.D.thU. The drama festival was discussed and arrangements niade for various propenies and supper. It was unanimously decided that takings for June and July saies table be aliocated to the fund for parceis for Britain. Mrs. Hewittson gave a specialrequesi recitation, "Joan oi Arc before her Judges," v/hich was greatly appreciated. Mrs. Taylor tnen askea Mrs. Dalton to demonscrate- makrng toys and dolls. A spiendid coliection of toys were snown and ha'nded round fGr members' inspeciion. Mrs. Dalton then demonscrated how to make a jomted doll, which was closely followed by members, and" patterns were lent for doll making. Mrs. Dalton was thanked for ner interesdng demonstration and presented with a posy of Otaki violets. A very dainty aicernoon tea was served by ihe hostesses, Mesdames Boyd, Drew, Hunter, G. Chittick, Herbert and Gower. Winners of the competitions were: Best flower, Mrs. Mann; best MiruD, Mrs. Drew; mock strawberry Ijam, Mrs. McConviiie. Tne hostesses for July are Mesdames King, Hewi-tson, Jensen, Johnson, Huil ' and Jacob. The competidons will. be five scones, cwo peggy squares', Ko. 9 needles, 30 stitcnes. Hot water bottle covers were asked for to be takou to China whau Miss Horner returns. Tne meecing closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
