LONDON, June 25. England defeated Soutli Africa *in the second Test by 10 wickets. Edrich and Compton, whosp record stand put England in a wiuning pojdtion, again starred on the final dav. . Edrich had a share in the dismissai of five out of six fSouth Afrieans vvtio were out before fUneh. He bowied Nourse with the first ball of the dav and brilliantly cauglit the next two batsmen to go. h Compton, with his leg-breaks, dis missed Dawson and Harris in quiek succession. ' Mitchell playjed a granci innings for the tourists, but defeat was inevitable at luncli when the team was still 21 , behind England 's first innings with four wickets to fall. South Africa averted an innings de feat largely due to Rowan 's stand ot 38 before the side was dismissed. Hutton and VVashbrook scored the necessarv runs.
