FEDERATED FARMERS WILL GO AHEAD
-4» ' ' Federated Farmers will go ahearl but we inust get behind it and push it, ' ' said the chairman, Mr. K. F. Spiers, at a meetiug of the Manawatu provinciai executive of Federated sFarmers, da- i\» section, yesterday. "Aitnough in s oae svays- I was satisficd ivith tv e aniiual mter-provincial conference, in othei ways I w:j,s dissatisfled with," he said. "It appeared to me $hat not quite as much work was done as last year and although some good remits were put for ward, it seemed that tliere was still a great deal of spade Work to do. " Mr. "Spiers said that he was very coneerned about the linances of Federated Farmers. They needed finance to continue in operation and if they could not get it, it would be the deathblow to the ■arganisation. 1 ' If .Auckland came in, it would relieve the position," he added. "We are behind by about £6000 in the figures given to me. Wliere is the money going? We should have a full report oi wliat is going on. ' ' The question of hay baling charges arose, it being contended that some system should be set up for balers working on a contract basis to ensure that farmers received what was due to them in the amount of baling doue. The farmers had no protection as' to the amount of hay that went into one bale, the quantity varying considerabiy as factors such as the quality of the hay and the amount of moisture in it had to be taken into consideration. If it were to be baied on a weight basis rather than a quantity basis then the farmers would be obliged t.o supply scales on the job. The irregular shape and weight of some of the bales turned out was mentioned, the opinion being expressed that if baling were to be carried out on a ton " oasis the farmers would reeeive just value for the money. On the motion of Mr. W. II. Gimblett, a resolution to this effect was carried. A sub-eomniittee, "comprising C. S. Hunt, R. Craig and G. Smith was set up to go into the question of the Pig Council 's standing with a view to consider ing the setting up of a sub-section for pig producers within Federated Farmers.
