Received Thursday, 7,0 p.m. LONDON, June 26. Next Saturday pmll be q'uite an occa:sion for Londoners. The statue of Eros is to be hoisted on to its old plintli in PiccadilJy Circus. There will oe formal speeches by Bir Alfred Muunings, president of the Royai Acadeniy and Lord Lathan, leader of the London County Council, followed by many infonnal celebrations. Eros, which was removed for safe keeping in 1939, just after the outbreak of war, liaS a special place in the affeetions of Londoners and in reeent months there have been insistent proddings of the powers that be that it should be replacedThis is the seeond time the public has denianded that Eros should be returned, It was first erectcd in the 90 's as a meniorial to the Earl of Bhaftesbury and remained tliere until 192.5 when tlie Piccadilly tube station was enlarged. It was not replaced until 1931 following a press campaign enquiring what had become of it. It also had a shorter absence in 1932 after being damaged in heetie New Year celebrations.
