CHARGES AGAINST ANGLICAN BISHOP

SYflNEY, June 24. - The form of service of the holy communion preseribed in the ''red book" used by the Angliean Bishop of Bath'irst, Dr. Arnold L'omas Wylde, was claimed by Canoxi T. C. Hammoud in the Equity Court today to be contrary 'to the laws of the Church of England. Canon Hammond said the red book coiitained unauthorised additions to the service pl'es&ribed in the book 'of common prayer and oue serious omission. In the creed in the red book was an inju'nc-ti'on to kneel at the words '"was incarna'te by the Hoiy Ghost of the Virgin Mary," which was not autkorised by the Church of England, h.e said. « Canon Hammond is rector of St. Phillips, Sydney, and principal of Moore Theological College. Because he is due 'to leave for England shortly, he was called today to give evidence in a suit 'against the Bishop brought by the New South Wales AttorneyGene'ral at the dnstance of a group of about 20 laymen who are members of the Church 'of England in the diocese of Bathurst. The relators asked' the court to restrain the Bishop from fol-: lowiug the words and praetices deserib*ed in tlie red book i'Ucluding words Whidh miglit suggest a belief in ti'ansubStantiation and praetices which included the maki'ng of the sign of the cross, the ringing of the sanctus bell, and the adoration of the sacred element.
