WELLINGTON, June -26. -The time lost in industry through accidehts exceeded the loss through hndustrial unrest, but more time was -lost -through sickness, said the •director of Indu'strial -hygiene, Dr. T. O. 'Garland, addressing the -Wel.lington branch of the Royal Society of "New Zealand last night. ' He said 'this faet was little appreciated .in press -stories of -industrial unrest. Dr. 'Garland stid he -had seen a large nuniber of .health 'Clauses -ih •some awar'ds and trade union interest in Workers' health, -but on the whole -it -was not well inforihed oe'cause of a -lack of .technolo'gical information. "-It is long past the time when *medical -officers "and nurses should be -appdiiited ffo supervise industrial welfare. There -ihould be a protective service for those workers 'Who are exposed to risk-s. There is seope for a nationwide effort to improve/the health •standards of workers."
