AKAROA BACK IN SERVICE

The 15,000-ton Akaroa, the seconc! ship in the Shaw Savill passenger fleei to be reconditioned after release froiu tlie Alinistry of Transport, has arrivei. in London from Newcastle to load a general cargo before sailing for 'Nev Zealand on July 3. At a cost of about £250,000 the Akaroa has been complete ly overhauled and refitted at Newcastli and is now smart with fresh paint and brand new furniture. . She will ca'rrv 300 ]rassengers — all one -class. The Akaroa, built in 1914, was formerly the Euripides. She was part of tlu Aberdeen line fleet until taken over ln Bhaw Savill. Though requisitionee during the war she remained in tht eonimercial service and was not used 'UF a troop carrier.
