SEVENTEEN DEAD IN FIRE

Received Wednesday, 7.10 p.m. BRUSSELS, June -24. Seventeen people were killed and ;40 injured when fire destroyed the Ministry of Education 'huilding to'day. Eight were "hurned to -death and the other "casualties resulted when trapped per sons jtunped from fifth-storey windows. The'fire started in films in the hasemexit "and it trapped many of the 500 occupants. Many women had to be prevehted from jumping from the Windows. The fire spread by way of the 11ft shaft and staircase to the seventh floor where *the employees were trapped. Many sought refuge on the roof from which some leaped to death. Others were rescued 'by firemen.
