Personal Messrs. B. Barber a'nd Spiers have returned home after an extended tour of the Waikato district conducted by the Young Farmers' Club. Card WinnewB , , , The card tournaments conducted each Friday evening in Laurvig's Hall still continue to attract a large number of enthusiasts. The prize-winners last Friday were Mrs. Lee, Senr., and Mr. R. Andrew, while the winners of the previous week's toyrnament were Mrs. Thorne and Mr. J. Sinclair. R.S.A. Parcel Appeal As the result of a generous donation from the Moutoa branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers of £15 11s 6d, the Shannon R.S.A.'s appeal for funds to supply food parcels to needy exservice families in Britain has 'now risen- to £61 16s 7d. From this sum a further consignment of 44 parcels has recently been despatched. Football Club Dance The local football club will be holding another of its popular dances on Thursday, July 3, in the Druids' Hall. The recently-formed social committee has arrangements well in hand, and it is expected that this function will be even better than the popular dance last month. By special request' the committee has again engaged the services of Tommy Hartley's orchestra. Herd Testing Averages The followi'ng are the group averages for cows tested in this district during May by the Welling-ton-Hawke's Bay Herd Improvement Association: Shannon-Fox-ton area. — Herds 20, cows 908, milk 420 lbs., test 5.68, fat 24 lbs. Highest herd; Cows 44, fat 31 lbs. Opiki-Tokomaru area. — Herds 22, cows 787, milk 347 lbs., test 6.10, fat 21 lbs. Highest herd: Cows 32, fat 29 lbs. More Local Flooding With the continuous steady rain over the past two days, many of the storm water channels have been unable to cope with the excess water, and the result is that a number of the streets in the borough have been subject to some flooding. In Grey Street yesterday morning the water was over the road in one place. However. this subsided within a few hours. Many acres of the low-lying ground around the. district. are under water as the result of the steady rising of the Otaru Stream. The old Foxton Road was under water for over two chains yesterday.
