PRISON ESCAPEES QUICKLY ROUNDED UP
Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, June 22. Two convicted murderers and one habitual crimiual made a daring break from Goulburn gaol but wallced into a police trap five iniles from the gaol less than two hours later. . The men escaped after smashing the iock -On a buildihg near the goal tower, clambering through a.skylight on to the gaol wai! and dropplng twenty feet to the ground.., A warder saw them running through a paddock but although they were wearing prison uniforms, he did "not recognise them. The men, all of whom are aged 19 were missed shortly after their- disappearauce and .search parties were orgauised, One party followed their tracks for f our miles across a river aud through rugged couutry. The escapeeg were then sighted.and headed off. They surrendered quietly. The murderers were sixteen and fifteen years old at the time of their crimes and were recommended for merciful tfeatment but the recomm^ndations could not be carried out because the law provides that anyone under 18 years convicted of murder inust be senteneed to life imprisomnent.
