TEACHING DEMOCRACY BY FRATERNISATION
■» Received Sunday, 7.0 p.m. LONDON, June 21. The Control Commission in Hamburg has issued an order lifting the fratern isation ban in the Britisli Zone. An orcler says social contact between the British and Germans is a powerful infiuence in encouraging the democratic Way of life. It says inereasingly elose cooperation in administrative matters between the British and Germans cannot stop short of the bfiicial contact and it officially encoufages the entertainment of Germans in British messes and private homes and British officials'; acceptance of German hospitality. The order Jnstructs the British, however, that they must not stay overnight in German home.s and if offered a meal inust taetfully decline unless they themselves contribute towards the rations. Germans may be invit.ed to British dances but Allied women invited must be informed that Germans are attending. , The order advises every eneonragement to the mixing of British and German children, praises tfie value of games between British and German fceams and urges assistanee to German youth movements with loans of sports grounds and instructors.
