CHRISTCHURCH, June 23. Two ftTeff were drowned, and a third had a miraculous escape When a taxi left No. 4 breastwork at Lyttelton and crashed into the harbour jjust before ll o'clock last high't. , The Victims were: Fredetick MesSetoger, t'axi ■drivfer^ of Ghtietchuroh^ rand Kenneth Davies, aged 1% of Liverpool, assistaht cook on the oversea's ship Saminvar. The man who escaped was Joseph Sy'rne, chief cook on 'the Saminvar. Byrne an'd Davies Were • -be^ing ■driven back to the -ship. ■ The taxi .was passing round the seaward Mde of a line of railway tr-uoks' when -it left the breastwork and plunged in'to .the harbdur, sinking in '25 feet of water. A's it touched the bottom of the harbour IByrne ma-hage'd to force bpen a door and -reach the surface w-here his cries for help were hear'd and he was rescued. The other two men were imprisoned in the car which was finally raised to the surface at 3 a.m, today by a tug, Byrne, who suffered from shock and cold 'coUld give little informathis momiing. •-
