FIRST IMMIGRANTS FOR NEW ZEALAND BEING CHOSEN

LONDON, June 19. The Immigration Department at Halifax House in the Strand is making arrangements for the first immigrants uuder the scheme reeently announceii b.v the Government .tb sail for New Zealand in the Rangitata on July 18. They will probably number about 12U. None has yet been selected' but many have already been interviewed and medically examined and will shortiy have a final intervievv. They include men and women ,an single, between the ages of 20 and 35, a large number whereof served in tiie war. The nien are mostly tra-inees for coal rnin.es and timber mills and unsldlled workers for heavy industnes. The women are ehiefly nurse trainees and. hospital domestics.
