"•»- Most people with premises Wliich were !ow enough to be'^affected by the- flood'' waters from the tide had been pre|)ared for a high tide on Thursday and today, but others were not so fortunate. The basemeut floor of' an auction room in the city was covered with several i'nehes of water when the pro^rietor- arrived, this morning and some time was spent oucketing it out.' Little damage was done to goods stored there. The proprietor said it was 'first time for many years that any water, had seeped into his property. The basemeut of warehouse premises in another part oi the city was under water and non-perishable goods including glassware wei'e very w,et. In this ase automatic pumps had not been able to cope with the volume. The basement of the post office was again flooded tonight, but it was stated by officials that the automatic pumps /were dealing with the situatiou adequaely. Damage was done to telephones on the wharves. The telephones at Queen's Wharf were dead during the greatei part of today. The gear had been saturated by the tide for some time both before and after high tide today and water was lapping against the deoking beams on Queen's Wharf.
