Personal Mr. G. Fitzgerald, of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, Shannon, has Yeturned home after two to three weeks spent in the South Island. The eng'agement is announced of Nola Mary, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Callesen, Mangaore, to Lester Keith, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Meehan, of Palmerston North. Rifle Club Opcning After being in recess for some months owing "to ammunition shor'tages, the Shannon Miniature Rifle Club will continue its weekly shoots again on Tuesday evening. The membership of the club is very large and for this reason the club will, in future, hold shoots on Tuesdays and Wednesdays of each week. District Loses 400 Cows The Shannon district will soon be losing the production value of almost 400 dairy cows. Within the next month four farmers who have been milking almost 100 cows each will be disposing of their herds. This will be a drastic loss in production for the district, while the pig production of these farms will be lost also. Slight Locai Flooding With the receht heavy rain the Manawatu River rose to a height of 8 ft. 10 ins. yesterday and the Otaru Stream accordingly, with the resuit that many acres of the low-lying ground around the river are under water. This is mostly caused by the backing up of the main drains. The most recent report yesterday gave indication that the river was falling and there is no danger of serious fiooding. vSuecessfu! Golf Dance The Mangaore Golf Club held a very successful dance in the Mangaore Hall on Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance of the dancing public and the president of the Buckley Golf Club, Mr. R. S. Downes, and Mrs. Downes represented their club. Other golfers from the district were present. Excellent music was supplied by Miss D. Wood and Mr. V. J. Bateman. A delightful supper was in the capable hands of the ladies of the Mangaore Club.
