At Hastings, where the Hawke's Bay Club will open its meeti'ng, Battle Dance should find the _distance of the Winter Handicap more to his liking than the seven furlongs at Awapuni last week. Battle Dance is a good winter performer who is not far short of peak form. Another two expected to perform well are United Nations and Precedency. The Hawke's Bay Steeplechase is likely to' rest between Abdicate and Gold Sport, with Gay Rouen the best of the others. In the open sprint, the the Heretaunga Handicap, Citation, on her present form, will go out the public fancy and she certai'nly will be one of the hardest to beat. She has been working attractively at Hastings. Ramicourt is returning to his best form as also is Royal Heir. Lady Delight is not without good prospects. The' Rangitikei meeting at Bulls has drawn good acceptors, but some horses, such as Mercian Lad, Audacious and Neville hold duel engagements, which considerably help to swell out the fields in the hack events. A- prospect at the meeting is Po-Marama, who is reachi'ng top forrn. It is some time since Po-Marama won, but success to the hoise's connections would be popular as they have been very patient in 'nursing him back to racing trim after a bad accident in trackwork. Other meetings tomorrow will be the Waipa and Ashburton fixtures. There will be win and place betting at all the meetings. Prospects are:
