UN COMMISSION MEETING IN ASIA

NANKING, June 17. The United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the f'ar East," at its first meeting at Shanghai today, elected Mr. T. F. Tsiang, of China, chairman, despite strenuous opposition by Russia. Sixty delegates frpm ten nations attended tlTp meeting, whieh is the first eyer held by a regional United Nations commission in Asia. There were acrimonious exchanges before Mr. Tsiang's election on the nomination of the Indian and United States delegates. M. Alexander -Stetsenk (Rpssia) complained of. the "apparent ten-dency-of the commission to exclude fche Soviet delegation frpm fully discussing.the qiiestipn of the eandidature." He asked whether the Soviet was suppos,ed to haye .equal rights with other nations.
