SCHOOLS' MUSIC FESTIVAL
full rehearsals to be held \ _____ 1 The enthusiastic " committee of the southern Horowhenua primary schools has arrangements for the music festival well under way. The schools represented in the massed choir are Paraparaumu, Reikorangi, Waikanae, Te Horo, Otaki and Manakau. Mr. F. H. Mayman, of Manakau, presided over a full attendance of the committee at Te Horo last week. It was decided that full rehearsals be held at Te Horo on June 17, July 1 and July 8. Arrangements have been made to hold two performances in the Civic Theatre, Otaki— a matinee on Wednesday, July 16, at 1.30 p.m. and an evening. performance on Wednesday, July 23, at 8 p.m. Tickets will be on sale for the evening performance only. After a long discussion it was decided that in order to cover the cost, the admission price for adults in all parts of the theatre for both performances be 2s 3d, and that children attending the matinee be charged 9d. The matinee has been arranged mainly for the children, and as the district covered is so large it was decided that there be no concession for children attending the evening performance. All agreed that there be no charge for booking seats, but that when -tickets are purchased the holders receive automatic bookings. The secretary was asked to have printed on the tickets that all booked seats not occupied by 7.45' p.m. on the night of the performance would be sold. The following positions for the festival were decided upon: — Stage manager: Mr. J. E. James; assistant stage manager: Mr. W. H. Townrow; house manager: Mr. J. A. Duncan; tickets and box plan: Mr. J. Hewitson. Miss M. L. Loche and Miss K. Keddell were asked to select suitable programme sellers. ' Application is to be made to the Otaki School Committee for the use of one of its pianos for.. th'e festival, and Mr. James was asked to make arrangements to have it tuned two or three days before the matinee. Miss Nation, , the music specialist, reported that the work in the various"1 schools was progressing very well and. it was now essential that as many, rehearsals as possible be held.Jn order that unity be achieved. " It was . felt : by ' the committee that the festival will enable the public to heay the music that is being taught. in the ' primary schools today. By inaugurating the festival the southern Horowhenua primary schools are following the lines. of the larger cities, who hold these performances every year. The people will obtain an insight into the cultural activities of the schools. The 'committee knows it will' be* difficult to admit all 'the people wishing to attend, and therefore asks that early application for bookings be made. All. the schools taking part in the festival will receive preferential booking. People in the outlying districts should make enquiries at their local school, where a box plan will .be available.
