The Seeretary of State (Mr. Marshall) at a press conference sharplv condemned tlie Senate and House joint conference deeision aceepting the eomprom.ise wool tariff plan and warned tliat it might "stymie" the Geneva Intemational Trade Conference, vvhicl sought the world-wide removal of trade barriers. After the Press eonferenc.e Mr. Mar ' shall released copies of communication^ from the former Seeretaries, Messrs Hull and Stimson, on the proposed woo! tariff, in whicli b.oth voieed strong opposition to the House provision for an import fee. Mr. Hull said anv aetion endangering the reciprocal trade programme would be "tragie in deed, " while Mr. Stimson telegraphed his opinion tliat the provision for a liigker wool tariff was most unwise. adding: "To other nations now watchiug for proof of Anierican' sincerity and unity, it would be a shocking indication tliat United States policy can at any time be shackled by the sort of economic short-sightedness for whieh all the world has paid so dearly in reeent years. ' '
