HASTINGS, Jutie 11. Once more in-lamb breeding ewes which are now showing up well in lamb, dominated the store sheep market ' at Stortford Lodge today. The selling of an offering of 6000 head was followed with interest by a good crowd of farmers. Quality breeding lines met with 'a • firm demand but a few pens of dingy in-lamb ewes failed to sell. Values for other classes of sheep also held up well exeept for inferior hoggets which were not 'so keenly sought after. Two-tootb ewes in lamb to Southdown rams maae 31s lOd and four-tooth 36s 9d while I mixed aged lines wero traded at from 27s to 35s 9d, the latter figures being paid for a pen containing mainly young ■sheep. Only a few pens of wethers come forward, business being done at 36s 6d for an attractive line of twotooths and at 35s 4d for older sheep. Shorn wether hoggets were traded at from 21s 6d to 27s 6d and good ewe hoggets were disposed of at from 32s 6d toi 33s. With the increase in the schedule, fat sheep buyers paid fully firm prices for ewes. Extra prime young ewes made 36s 7d to 38s lOd and other young ewes 30s 7d to 31s 7d with older prime ewes 26s 7d to 37s lOd and lighter at 23s lOd to 25s 4d. Prime wethers made 3.8s 7d to 10s ld, medium 36s 4d to 37s LOd, and unfinished 32s "lOd to 31s 4d. Hoggets were in short supply, medium sorts selling at 28s 7d. The store cattle market assumed a brighter tone and passings were the exception, contrary to the experience at recent saies. The offering of 450 head, wrhich was substantially smaller than last week, did not attract the same crowd in the rostrum but those wrho followed the selling revealed more interest with the result that t'he inquiry was well sustained at prices right up to or in excess of vendors' valuations. Empty cows made up a good portion of the yarding and values for these ranged from £6 5s to £8 10s. Weaner,, heifers sold at £3 8s and one peh was':passed in at £3 I6s. Bising three-year steers with a few older beasts sold at £12 12s and £13. Weaner steers were traded at from £6 6s to £6 19s. , Though the beef market lacked animation the inquiry was nevertheless steady and there were only a iew; passings. Values were again at ■ about schedule. Ineluded in the entry of 200 head'Vere some .very, good qfihlity: cows and vealers, the • • latter in - particular aro.usifig. interest to sell at from £6 11s tb £8 12s.. Cbws provided the bulk of the' entry, heavy prime sorts selling at £14' 6s to £14 18s Gd, prime £13 8s 6d to £13 16s, medium £11 3s 6d to £12 and unfinished £8 11s to £10 ls.
