SHOULD IT BE PLAYED?
contbo versy over rugby trial game Whether or not -the PossiblesProbables mateh seheduled fqr Saturday should be played was a matter of lengthy discussion at iast night's " meeting of the management cemmittee of the Horo- : whenua Rugby "Union, It was decided that as a previous motipn 1 to play the game was already on the minute book nothing could be done about it. . Mr. J. "B. MacFarlane said that club fqotball was ihe baekbone of rugby, and that the seleetor had already seen the Maori-Pakeha mateh » and would by now have seiected his -senior team. To have anqther game J2 'days after the Mapri-Pakeha match would be a sheer waste of time and playing Saturdays. "We have only two Saturday competition days befare the senior team plays Wairarapa, and we need these Saturdays for eompetition play." Mr. V. J. Bateman: I think it ip advisable to carry on with the Possibles-Probables match, as it will give the seleetor a chanee to see his players in action. The seleetor is : in f avoui? of carrying on with the game and in addition we passed' a motion that the game be played at a previous meeting. Mr. J. Dunlop: The clubs are agreeable to the game being played. Mr. C. Johnson then raised the matter as to where the game would be played, and said that it was time that one of the towns , outside Leyin had the benefit of a first class match. Mr. Bateman: I think we should play some of -these good .. "family" games in the country towns. Mr. D, Coie: it is ail very weli to ask for these games to be played in the country towns, but these towns have not gqt the facilities that Levin has\ Another thing, the "gatqs" would not be as good either. Mr. F- g. Carrington: it would be better from a reyenue point of view to play the game in Levin. Mr. A. Gillespie : We have got to foster the ogame throughout the district, but we must also think of the gate r'eturns1. Mr. Johnson: We have never tried these other towns out, and I think you will get just as good gates. " Mr. R, L. Robinson: With this matter we don't want parochial feelings. Levin is a eentral point for players. We must knuckle down to the idea of playing the big matches in Levin, as it also gives all the supporters a chance of seeing the game. Mr. Robinson then moved that both games, the Possibles-Prqb-ables and the junior North-South ■ p^yed .in Eevin. it was seconded by Mr. Carrington. . Mr. Bateman moyed. an amendment that both games be played at Foxton. The amendment was lost and the motion that both games be played in Levin was carried on the voices. Mr. J. Dunlop was appointed manager pf the Probables team and Mr. R. L. Robinson .manager pf the Possibles. The junior NorthSouth game will start at 1.15 p.mand the Possibles-Probables at '2.45 p,m. to enabie the spectator's to leave jn time to hear the playing of the test match in Australia.
