Personal Mrs. Turnbull, of Domain Road, is at present a patient at the Wellington Hospital, and is sUffering from eye trouble. Mr. Claude Grey is at present a patient at the Palmerston North Hospital,' but is reported to be maklng good progress. 'Mr. J. C. Neill, who has been in hospital at Palmerston North for the past eight weeks, due to severe burns, has returned to his home at Otaki. The death occurred at Trentham on Saturday of Mrs. Eleanor Elizabeth Avery, aged 73 years. The deceased, who was wellknown and highly respected, leaves a husband. Mr. Robert William Avery, and a grown-up family to mourn their loss. Mr. J. D. Avery, of Otaki, is a brother-in-law. The funeral takes place today at Trentham. Mr. Te Wiata Starts Studies A letter received by Mr. Jack Grant, from Mr. Inia Te Wiata,, the gifted Maori singer, states that he arrived in London on May 25. . He had now started his studies at Trinity College, and was pleased with his teacher, Mr. Kennedy Scott, who immediately showed a keen and kindly interest in him. Inia states that he feels sure with such a teacher he will do well. His subjects included German, Fremch and Italian. Mr. Te Wiata states that living is very expensive, while the food shortage is most marked. He had already visited many places of interest, but once he settled down to his studies he would do so whole-heartedly. Singing will be his main object. Inia sends greetings to his many friends in Otaki and elsewhere.
