Britain 's harvest prospects are en-, conraging and are very much better than tliey had any right to expect a niontli ago, said tlie Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Williams, but they had lost; 500,000 acres of wlieat which could not 1 be sown beeause of th.e Weather alid this could only be made good by an expenditure of dollars on Canada and United .States wlieat. The target before tlie floods was 2,500,000 acres. Mr. Williams added that 690,000 acres of farmland were fl'ooded at one period and 7000 acres were s'til'l flooded. Most of 'tlie drained land had been cultivated and sown since the floods. The farmers had performed marvels.
