WANDERERS BEAT SHANNON IN FORWARD GAME
The game on the LeVin Domaih on Saturday between Wanderers and Shannon Was CdhfihSd mainly to forward play due to the wet and greasy ball, and was conseguently uninteresting. Although WandCfers won by eight points to three, they did not have the . game all their own way. Neither Side'S backs were seen, to advantage, and When the ball did reach the rear= guards the movements frequentiy broke down because of a tendency for the inside backs of both tea-ms tryihg to bteak- through by themselves or kicking through for an opehing. All the points came in the first half when the ball was lighter to handle. Both fulibacks piayed good games and Skilton, Wanderers, saved his team oh many occasions by his accuf&te line kicking. Wanderers had the greater share of the ball and this was due mainly to excelleht hooking by L. Winiata. The teamg were as folloWs: — Wanderers: Skilton, Seymour* McCready, Stackhouse, Sciascia, T. Winiata, Williams, Stewart* Lincoln, W. Winiata, Bartholohiew, H, ■Winiata, Nepia, Milroy , and Hughes. Stewart Was repiaced by L. Winiata during the first spell. Shannon: Pederson, Cootes* Rauhihi, Coley, J. -Cole, Gadsby, Peni, Robinson, Eratt, CaMpbeii, Callesen, Rolston, Speranzo, Piggott and K. Robinson. Wanderers forced the pace from the kick-off Und six minUteC after the commencement Wanderers scored. From a serum on the Wanderers 10-yard line, the ball was hooked to WilliaMS* who sCht it on to T. Winiata. Winiata transferred to Sciascia who kiCked through. The big winger," Seymour, raced up, beat Cootes for the ball and gathered it in, HC brushed Pedersoh, thd Sfiafihon full-back off and scored an easy try under the posts. StackhbUSe converted. Wanderers 5, Shannon 0. Twenty mifiutes later Waiiderers were again knocking dn the Shannon goal line. Several rucks knd line-outs were formed near the line, but neither side could impr'ove its position. A ruck developed about ten yards frdm the corner flag, and Stewart gathered the ball in to bursf his- Way cver. the line under a pile of Shannon forwards. Stackhouse's kick slid off his boot to the side. Wanderers 8, Shannon 0. Stewart/ who had been playing.a gdod .gatne: WkS hurt as he scored v and h'iS place was taken by L. Winiata. Shannon cracked on the pace and took the ball to the wanderers' twenty-five. A peaalty v.as awarded' them close to the posts and Pederson convefted with a good kick as the ball, was by then greasy and heavy. ' Wanderers 8« Shannon 3. Half ■tilhe camfe sooh after. The second spell was typical wet weather footbali, with the packs dominating play. Wahderers were always on the ball and perh-ips had the greater territorial advantage.
