PRISON ESCAPEES ARRESTED

At 7.18 o'clock yesterday mornin Sergeant G. Innes and Constable J. \\ Winnard arrested two of the escape;1 prisoners in Palmerston North. Thet^ were Jesse le Roy Hines, a seaman born in 1915, a native of America, anl -Tohn Andrew Hislop, a labourer anl presser, aged 24 years, a native of New Zealand. Later yesterday morning they appeared before Messrs. W. II. Brown and H. Greenwood, J.P.'s, in the Magistrate's C'ourt to answer a eharge of having converted to their own use a car, valued at £140, the property of Robert George Gallop. They were nol wearing prison garb but civilian elothes. Senior-Sergeant B. Audley, asking for a remand in custody, explained the circumstanccs leading to the arrest oi the wanted men in Palmerston North. Just after seven o'clock the Pal merston North police reeeived a tele phone call from a man who stated that there were two men at a petrol station in Kangitikei Street who were suspiciously like the broadcast deseriptiou - of the e'scapees. Sergeant G. Inncs,anfl Constable J. Winnard proceeded to the scene in the police patrol car, and ffected a smart arrest. Both prisoners werb remanded to Wellington.
