Pcrsondil *• Mr. and Mrs. Pat Ferguson, who have been in Auckland, returned home on Tuesday. Mr." and Mrs. C. Robertson, who have been on holiday in Hawera, have returned to their home at Otaki. ■ f Mr. and Mrs. Pat Williams,' Mrs. Miles and Mr. J. Guy, who have been on a visit to Napier, returned to Otaki on Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Guthrie and family, of Te Horo, have decided to take up residence at .Whakatane. They ,will carry with them the best wishes of a large circle of friends. The funeral of the late Mr. Bruce « Ferguson took place at Auckland on Tuesday, when a number of relatives and friends from Otaki and f district attended. The death occurred at Waikanae on Tuesday of Mr. "Joe" Ropata, at one time one of Horowhenua's leading footballers. The deceased, who was 65 years of age, leaves a widow to mourn her lossr Cabled advice states' that Mr. Inia Tewiata, the noted singer, arrived in England on May 25. The American magazine Time devotes an article to this singer's ability. Miss Inglis, who has been a resident of Otaki for some time, leaves shortly to take up residence in Wellington. Miss Inglis goes to Nelson on Tuesday for a holiday prior to entering business in the city. The death occurred at the New Plymoiith Hospital on Tuesday of Mr. Arthur O'Brien, father of Mr. A. V. O'Brien, the well-known handicapper. Deceased, who was 90 years of age, was for^ some tiffie staying in Otaki, where he made many friends. The death occurred at Paraparaumu on Monday of Mrs. Nicolson, widow of the late Captain Samuel Nicolson, in her 83rd year. Mrs. Nicolson, who was wellknown and highly respected, leaves two sons to mourn their loss. The funeral will take place tomorrow after a service at the Karori Crematorium. Mrs. S. Mitchell, who has been a resident of Otaki for several years, leaves at the weekend to take up residence in . Wellington. Mrs. Mitchell- (nee Miss . Irene Street) has been secretary of the Boy Scouts' Committee, filling the position with credit. Mrs. Mitchell has proved very popular and will be missed from this district. She will carry with her the best wishes of her many friends. Licensing Bench The annual meeting of the Otaki Licensing Bench will be held at noon at Levin on Friday next. Clearing Sale The clearing sale held yesterday on behalf of Miss Bennett was well attended, and all goods sold readily under the hammer. Tennis Balls Mr. J. E. James, headmaster of the Otaki State School, wishes to acknowledge the gift from Mr. B. Ryder of five dozen used tennis balls for school use. Wandering Stock The practice of aliowing stock to wander on roads is reported to have been prevalent recently, and it is understood that court proceedings are being taken against some of the offenders. Horticultural Society The annual meeting of the Otaki Horticultural and Daffodil Society will be held tonight, when it is hoped that the attendance will be a large and representative one. Drama Circle At a meeting of members of the Te Horo Drama Circle on Tuesday night, it was agreed to hold a dance in the Te Horo Hall on Saturday, June 21. Arrangements are in the hands of a capable committee and this should ensure the success of- the function.
