ITALY KNOWS NOTHING OF ENVELOPES
Received Thursday, 11.40 a.m. LONDON, June 4 Reuter's Rome correspondent says the Italian authorities Mated that they knew nothing about the letters containing the explosives. Offieials asked how the supposedly dangerous envelopes survived the force of the postmarking machine. Scotland Yard described the packages as extremely dangerous. The inner envelope contained powdered geligmite and a battery the size of a pencil, with a detonator between two pieces of cardboard. Reuter's says that eight prominent persons in London received the envelopes, all of which were posted in Italy. It is now known that Lord Montgomery did not receive an explosive envelope and the Ministry of Fuel deries the repovt that one explosive packet was sent there.
